Forbes reported on the growth of the Russian fitness market by 24% in November

The Russian fitness market showed a significant increase in November versus November 2021 after a long decline, informed Forbes, citing data from the National Fitness Society (NFS).

It is specified that in November sales of club cards and subscriptions increased by 21.3% compared to the same period last year. Attendance and occupancy of clubs also increased by a quarter (20.6%), and sales of additional services – by 16.7%. “The fact that the figures for November this year are significantly higher than last year is logical. This is due to the fact that in November 2021, due to an increase in the incidence of COVID-19, non-working days and a short-term lockdown were announced,” explained Elena Silina, President of the NSF.

However, according to her, this does not mean that the industry is returning to pre-pandemic levels. “On average, all indicators are still worse than the pre-crisis 2019: sales of cards and subscriptions are lower by 3%, additional services by 2.4%, attendance is lower by 6.2%,” Silina noted.

At the beginning of the year NSF predictedthat this year the industry will not be able to return to pre-pandemic levels. According to the community, the turnover of the sports and recreation facilities market by the end of 2022 may amount to 145.3 billion rubles, which is 13% lower than in 2019. At the same time, the indicator turned out to be 3.5% higher than the level of the previous year.

According to Silina, the negative situation in the fitness industry is influenced by the international situation, the high level of anxiety among Russians and the sanctions that led about 20% of large suppliers of sports equipment will leave the Russian market. In early September, the NSF explained that due to logistical difficulties, the cost of these products increased by 30-40%. Silina also notedthat due to supply disruptions, market participants are faced with a shortage of spare parts, due to which 15% of fitness clubs have idle equipment in cardio zones.
