Parliamentarians are developing a new version of the bill on punishment for the intentional dissemination of personal data of citizens. For such a crime, it is proposed to introduce a penalty in the form of a fine of up to 3 million rubles. and imprisonment up to ten years. This was reported to RIA Novosti by a member of the constitutional committee of the Federation Council, deputy chairman of the Council for the Development of the Digital Economy at the Chamber Artem Sheikin.

As Mr. Sheikin clarified, the bill provides for a fine of up to 700 thousand rubles for the dissemination of personal data. or imprisonment up to five years, or forced labor for the same period. If personal information is distributed by an organized group, a fine of 3 million rubles. together with imprisonment for up to ten years.

According to Artem Sheikin, during the development of the bill, special attention was paid to the transfer of personal information of Russians abroad. In this case, the punishment is up to eight years in prison with a fine of up to 2 million rubles.

“Now the bill is being actively developed by parliamentarians, I am sure that it will be submitted to the State Duma before the end of the spring session,” Mr. Sheikin specified. The spring session in the State Duma ends on July 30.

The senator noted that it is necessary to fight not only with the phenomenon of “leaks” of personal data, but also with individual resources to which this information is distributed.

“It’s no secret that now you can enter the “database of merged data” in the search engine and you will be provided with a huge amount of resources that allow you to access the personal information of tens of millions of people. Such databases open an easy way for bandits and swindlers to commit crimes, because in a matter of seconds they can find out everything about their victims: the address of residence, the list of relatives, the financial situation of the family, and much more,” Mr. Sheikin explained.

According to Roskomnadzor, since the beginning of 2023 happened about 75 personal data leaks. In total, about 200 million records about Russians got on the Internet. For all of 2022, approximately 600 million records leaked.
