In February 2011, when he was only 16 years old and after six years of harassment, Jonathan Destin attempted to set himself on fire before throwing himself into the Deûle. The young man survives, but his body is burned to 72%. Plunged into an artificial coma for two and a half months, he spent a total of three years in hospital and underwent around twenty operations.
Raising awareness in schools
After this painful ordeal, Jonathan Destin writes a book, doomed to kill mereleased in 2013 then adapted by TF1 in 2018 in the TV movie The day I burned my heart. The young man is also increasing his interventions in schools in order to raise students’ awareness of bullying.
