The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) sent requests to dairy producers and retailers for information to further analyze pricing for dairy products. About it reported in the department’s press office.
“The service sent requests to the largest milk producers and federal retail chains to provide the information necessary for analysis. On the basis of the received data, the agency will assess the pricing mechanism,” it was reported.
The FAS recalled the inadmissibility of creating an artificial shortage of products on the market, as well as the need to behave in good faith. In case of detection of violations, antitrust response measures will be taken, the department warned.
In early June, deputies of the State Duma Committee on Agrarian Issues sent a letter to the Federal Antimonopoly Service with a request to check retail chains for overpricing of dairy products. The letter said that the pricing policy of stores may hinder the growth of consumption of dairy products and demand. In particular, at the end of 2022, the increase in reserves amounted to about 38%.
June 13, Deputy Prime Minister Victoria Abramchenko suggested return milk to the hot meals of elementary school students. According to her, with this measure, it is possible to increase the consumption of dairy products among children who need it at this age and help producers. Abramchenko noted that large and medium-sized enterprises that work under long-term contracts feel more confident compared to small businesses and private farms that transfer milk to collectors. She also noted that the government expects that by the end of the year the situation will stabilize, and the dynamics of growth in milk production will continue.
