FAS initiated cases against egg producers in Crimea and the Kirov region

Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) excited cases against four producers of chicken eggs on the grounds of a cartel agreement: Crimean LLC Partizan, LLC SP Oktyabrskoye and Kirov LLC Sovetskaya Agrofirma, JSC Vyatsko-Polyanskaya Poultry Farm.

As reported by the FAS, since the beginning of September, the Crimean manufacturing companies Partizan and Oktyabrskoye have allowed wholesale prices to increase by up to 94% for different categories of eggs. The interregional Crimean department of the FAS stated that a simultaneous increase in prices that is not associated with changes in the general conditions of circulation of goods may be a violation of the law on the protection of competition.

Kirov’s “Soviet Agrofirm” and JSC “Vyatsko-Polyanskaya Poultry Farm” allowed an increase of up to 60% from June to October. The fact of the price increase was revealed by the Kirov department of the FAS. If violations are found, manufacturers face turnover fines.

According to Rosstat, eggs became one of the most expensive products in November. In 46 constituent entities of the Russian Federation, prices for them increased by 10–20%, in 21 constituent entities – by 20–28.6%. In early December, Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov instructed check regional producers and sellers if the average retail price of chicken eggs in the region has increased by more than 40%.

Russian President Vladimir Putin during the “Results of the Year” explainedthat the demand for eggs exceeded supply, and imports were not opened on time in the required volume. He called the situation a failure of the government and promised that the necessary measures would be taken.

According to Kirovstat, in the Kirov region in November, chicken eggs rose in price by 18.7%. On average, in retail chains the cost of a dozen eggs varies between 130–140 rubles. In summer, the cost of the lowest category of eggs was about 70 rubles, now it exceeds 100 rubles.

As Kommersant was told by the Ministry of Agriculture of Crimea, the cost of a dozen eggs of the lowest grade in the region starts from 106 rubles. However, representatives of the retail trade in a conversation with Kommersant noted that on the peninsula, chicken eggs cost on average from 150 to 200 rubles. Moreover, most of the goods presented on store shelves are locally produced.
