Export prices for thermal coal from Russia in the third quarter of 2023 began to rise after falling in mid-summer and are now $79–100/t. This is stated in the quarterly review of the Price Index Center (PIC) of Gazprombank, which Vedomosti reviewed.
As noted in the review, the export price of energy coal has been declining since the beginning of the second quarter, following world prices. The reasons for the fall were an increase in domestic production in importing countries, coal reserves accumulated due to a warm winter, as well as an increase in the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) on the EU market. In particular, coal production in China in January–June 2023 increased by 4.4% compared to the same period last year to 2.3 billion tons.
