25% of Russians visit theaters several times a year, it follows from VTsIOM poll. This figure has almost doubled since 2008.
Among theater visitors, women are more common (30% versus 17% among men), young people aged 18–24 years (39%) and metropolitan residents (40%). The Northwestern Federal District was named the most “theatrical” – 38% of its residents said that they go to the theater several times a year. There are also the fewest people here who have never been to a theater production – only 12%.
The share of those who visit the theater once every few years is 19%. A third of respondents practically do not visit theaters (34%), and one in five have never seen theatrical performances (21%). Among the reasons for this are the lack of a theater in their place of residence (33%), lack of free time (23%), and indifference to theatrical art (17%).
The respondents named local theaters (36%), the Bolshoi Theater (12%), and the Mariinsky Theater (10%) as their favorites.
