Swedish producer, Eurovision supervisor Martin Österdahl said that the decision to remove Russia from the contest after the start of a special military operation was difficult.
“And now it’s difficult. What Europe thinks has a very strong influence on the competition,” he said on BBC 4 radio.
Österdahl added that the decision to remove Russia was in line with the West’s values of mutual assistance and unity through music.
The producer believes that the competition, despite being outside of politics, must always uphold the highest values of democracy.
Recall that the European Broadcasting Union suspended Russia from Eurovision on February 25 with the explanation that the participation of a Russian representative could “damage the reputation” of the contest.
