EU car sales show first rise in 14 months

In August, sales of passenger cars in the EU grew up by 4.4%, amounting to 650.3 thousand. Such data today, September 16, was presented by the European Association of Automobile Manufacturers (ACEA). Prior to this, auto sales in the EU declined for 13 consecutive months. Including the UK and countries from the European Free Trade Association (Iceland, Norway, Switzerland and Liechtenstein), car sales increased by 3.4%, to 749 thousand cars.
At the same time, as ACEA notes, car sales in the European Union are still below pre-pandemic levels. In the first eight months of this year, sales in the EU fell by 11.9% to 6 million vehicles.
Car sales in August grew in all four largest EU car markets: in Italy – by 9.9%, in Spain – by 9.1%, in France – by 3.8%, in Germany – by 3%. Auto sales grew the most in Portugal (by 42.4%), Greece (by 39.7%) and Ireland (by 36.4%). In six EU countries, car sales fell the most in Romania (by 22.3%), Denmark (by 19.5%) and Finland (by 10%).
