On Wednesday, the European Commission approved allocation of €5.2 billion for the development of energy projects related to the use of hydrogen. Funds will be allocated by 13 countries of the European Union (EU), including Denmark, France, Italy and Spain. The project called IPCEI Hy2Use is aimed at research in this area, the construction of electrolytic plants for the production of hydrogen fuel, the creation of infrastructure for its storage, transportation, etc. It is expected that another €7 billion will be invested in the project by European business.

We are talking about the production of the most environmentally friendly, the so-called green, hydrogen, which is obtained by electrolysis using electricity from renewable sources. Lately around the world activated projects for the production and transportation of hydrogen fuel. For the EU, this is one of the opportunities to reduce dependence on Russian gas.

Back in March Germany and Norway discussed the possibility of building a hydrogen pipeline to supply this type of fuel from Norway to Germany.
