A gas field has been discovered offshore in Egypt in the eastern Mediterranean Sea, said the Italian energy company Eni, which has been operating in Egypt since 1954.
“Eni announces a significant discovery of a new gas field in the exploration well Nargis-1, located in the concession of the Nargis shelf in the eastern Mediterranean Sea, offshore Egypt,” — says in a statement.
Well Nargis-1 was drilled at a depth of 309 m by the drilling vessel Stena Forth. The field can be developed using proximity to existing Eni facilities, the company said.
Eni has been present in Egypt since 1954 and operates in the African country through its subsidiary IEOC.
