More than a third of Russians plan to change jobs in 2024. Mostly representatives of the banking and online trading segments are talking about moving to another company, RBC cites data from Avito analysts. A year ago, 14% of working citizens reported plans to move to another company. As noted, respondents aged 18 to 24 think about this most often. In this group, 42% want to quit in the near future. Among the generation from 45-54 years old, approximately 30% of Russians want to change jobs. At the same time, 60% of respondents are planning to ask for a salary increase after the New Year, some are also expecting a promotion.

“Kommersant FM” asked company executives whether staff turnover has increased over the past year, and how they manage to retain employees:

Irina Rys, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Lanta Bank: “The largest players set inadequately high salaries for IT specialists, causing a serious overflow in all banks. When returning employees, we are obliged to meet the parameters that have already been offered to them. It’s complicated. And, naturally, the implementation of some service blocks and modules is lengthening. Everyone sticks to the team and understands how important stability is. You can go elsewhere for a high salary, complete a project, and then the new employee will simply be kicked out onto the street.”

Anton Derkonos, managing partner of the Palchiki salon chain: “It’s more difficult to recruit new employees. There are fewer visitors from the regions. The currency factor also plays a role. At the same time, our industry is not famous for big profits. We cannot offer everyone double the salary. And if you start raising prices, customer loyalty will decrease. There is an oversupply from other salons, which sometimes increase prices inappropriately. If the salary level is satisfactory, people stay. Plus, these employees always have the opportunity to work more, sell and earn more.”

Victor Semenov, founder of the Belaya Dacha group of companies: “Our company created three more this year. Can you imagine what kind of personnel shortage we have now? We recently conducted a study on our own. 72% indicated that salary is the main factor for them. At the same time, we constantly do indexing. Now we will also look for reserves. We pay a lot of attention to the development of sports, we create career sheets so that people don’t leave. When there are even small opportunities, people demand even more. But if we pay too much, we will simply stop developing. We are optimizing costs somewhere, introducing innovations and automation.”

Maxim Tretyakov, General Director of the Elkat plant: “I can’t find a turner with a salary of 160 thousand rubles. Such a specialist receives the same salary as a commercial director. This is a question of who has a deeper pocket – the conventional defense enterprise or me. In this situation, I will naturally lose. Here you have to sacrifice step by step. We pass on the inflation that can be passed on to our customers. Naturally, we begin to lose margin. And if a company cannot cope with costs, it simply sinks.”

In 2024, large Russian companies will continue to lure qualified specialists from their competitors, however, the process will be less active, says Tatyana Dolyakova, general director of the ProPersonnel agency:

“Of course, the situation is overheated. Salaries have already been raised to the maximum. I don’t think there will be any growth next year. This is no longer economically viable. Large state-owned companies or industrial enterprises can afford a constant increase in wages. But people don’t leave there.

Probably, there was no damage yet, because in 2023 everyone was taking a closer look, restructuring business processes, supply chains, and raising salaries for some. Moreover, the employer is changing the wage system. If earlier, let’s say, there was a salary plus a bonus part, now everyone’s salary has simply been increased.

There are actually enough qualified personnel; a shortage has arisen among working personnel. Moreover, the possibility of bringing candidates to Russia is already being discussed with other states. Employers are also considering the possibility of hiring staff, for example, from India, where there is a fairly large number of people. The salary level there is such that $200 and $500 is already a happy employee, and industrial companies conduct such negotiations.”

As noted in the study, specialists in the fields of marketing, advertising and PR, online trading, construction, fitness and beauty salons primarily intend to achieve a salary increase or promotion. 25% of respondents said they wanted an increase of at least 5 thousand rubles. up to 10 thousand rubles 14% would be satisfied with an increase to 15 thousand rubles.

And 8-9% of Russians expect that their salary will increase by 20 thousand rubles. and 40 thousand rubles, respectively.
