Elena Pronicheva replaces Zelfira Tregulova as General Director of the Tretyakov Gallery

General Director of the Tretyakov Gallery Zelfira Tregulova left her post due to the expiration of her employment contract. Elena Pronicheva, General Director of the Polytechnic Museum, has been appointed to the position. This was reported in the Ministry of Culture.

Elena Pronicheva is the daughter of Vladimir Pronichev, who at various times was the head of the Border Service, the head of the department for the protection of the constitutional order and the fight against terrorism, and the first deputy of the FSB. Elena Pronicheva graduated from MGIMO with a degree in comparative politics. She worked in the Committee on Budget and Taxes in the State Duma, in the department of foreign economic activity of Gazprom and Gazprombank. From 2013 to 2020, she served as Executive Director of the Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center. In 2020 she headed the Polytechnic Museum.

As noted in the Ministry of Culture, Elena Pronicheva will have to “preserve the best experience in saving the museum’s funds and continue the development of the State Tretyakov Gallery and its branches, including within the framework of the cultural, educational and museum complexes being created.”

Zelfira Tregulova graduated from the art history department of the history department of Moscow State University. She has led the Tretyakov Gallery since 2015. For 11 years she was Deputy General Director for Exhibitions and International Relations of the Moscow Kremlin Museums, from 2013 to 2015 – General Director of the ROSIZO Museum and Exhibition Center.

At the end of January, the Ministry of Culture sent a letter to the general director of the Tretyakov Gallery, Zelfira Tregulova, and asked for a report on the compliance of one of the exhibitions with spiritual and moral values. This happened after a complaint by a certain Sergei Shadrin. According to Novye Izvestia, he complained about the exposition dedicated to the art of the second half of the 20th century. He was embarrassed by the scenes of “numerous funerals, including in the presence of marginal social elements”, “drunken alcoholism” and “voluntaristic interpretations” of the images of Russian rulers.
