Ekaterina Volkova remembered the words of Abdulov about Pugacheva

Abdulov: compared to Volkova’s singing, “Pugacheva is the seventh motor depot”

Actress and singer Ekaterina Volkova told aif.ruhow people’s artist of the RSFSR Alexander Abdulov influenced her life.

According to Volkova, the collaboration with Abdulov in Sergei Solovyov’s film “About Love” led the actress to the NEXT series. The artist recalls how Abdulov was then looking for a heroine in the series and showed her to director Oleg Fomin. Volkova noted that they had a fruitful creative union, which brought five more films to her portfolio. At the same time, the ex-wife of Eduard Limonov emphasized that they remained friends with Fomin, as well as with Abdulov, despite mutual sympathy.

“I believe that the personal can hurt in a working relationship – because there is no longer the former freedom in communication,” the actress said.

Shortly after filming the series, Alexander Abdulov invited Ekaterina Volkova to go on tour with the play “Everything Passes,” as one of the actresses of the troupe was about to go on maternity leave. Volkova recalls that Abdulov promised her $150 for each performance.

“The composition there was wonderful: Sergey Petrovich Nikonenko, Elena Proklova. I remember sitting with Lena in the dressing room, and she told me about Abdulov: “Katka, why are you being capricious? Such a handsome man is in love with you.” Sasha and I went to America for clothes. He bought me a sheepskin coat,” Volkova said.

During the New York tour, as Volkova shared, Abdulov did not stop motivating her to sing. The actress recalled the episode at the Russian Samovar restaurant, founded by Joseph Brodsky, Roman Kaplan and Mikhail Baryshnikov.

“Sashka and Romka removed the singer from the microphone, and I sang romances to them. And Abdulov himself sang Frank Sinatra’s Strangers In The Night. Sasha was a soul-man. He knew how to love, knew how to make friends. His friends followed him everywhere. Abdulov had a lot to learn,” shared Ekaterina Volkova.

Volkova, the ex-wife of Eduard Limonov, also recalled how Alexander Abdulov once commented on her singing, saying that compared to Volkova’s skills, “Pugacheva is the seventh motor depot.”
