egg prices have increased due to high demand – Kommersant

Prices for chicken eggs have increased not only because of inflation, says Elvira Nabiullina, Chairman of the Central Bank (CB). According to her, the reason was also high demand.
She stated in an interview RBC, that “when the rate of price growth is high, something constantly shoots up here.” “There is a temptation to link high inflation to some type of commodity. But, unfortunately, there are common reasons there. First of all, in our case, this is that the high growth in demand outstrips the possibilities of supply,” the head of the Central Bank is convinced.
Retail egg prices rose sharply in November. In December, eggs became one of the most expensive products – their price rose by 10–20% in 46 regions of the Russian Federation. On December 14, during the “Results of the Year,” President Vladimir Putin also said that the reason for the increase in prices for chicken meat and eggs was an increase in demand. On December 17, the Ministry of Agriculture announced that eggs from Turkey without import duty will begin to arrive in Russia in two to three weeks. The next day the Kremlin statedthat efforts to reduce egg prices have been successful.
