The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, believes that EU duties on Russian and Belarusian grain will affect the entire world grain market. The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, proposed taking such measures.

“Is she so worried about starving countries? How will such measures contribute to global food security? No way, they will only aggravate the food situation in the world that has already been brought to the point of absurdity by the West,” wrote Maria Zakharova in her Telegram channel.

The day before, at a press conference, the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen reported, which proposed at the EU summit to increase duties on Russian and Belarusian grain. According to her, duties can prevent destabilization of the European grain market, as well as deprive Russia of additional income from trade with Europe.

According to Financial Times, the duty will be set at €95 per ton. The same fee will be established for oilseeds and their processed products. In 2023, imports of Russian grain into the EU countries amounted to 4 million tons – 1% of total grain consumption in Europe.
