The scheme of passenger rail traffic has been changed due to the suspension of through traffic on the section of the Baikal-Amur Mainline (BAM), Russian Railways reported. Head of Buryatia earlier clarifiedthat due to the destruction of the dam and the outflow of the Kholodnaya River, about 200 meters of the railway track were washed out and ten poles of the contact network were damaged.
According to the Russian Railways Telegram, trains traveling from east to west are re-formed at Kichera station and sent around along the Tynda-Bamovskaya connecting branch and further along the Trans-Siberian Railway. Buses are also used to transport passengers to the Kichera station.
Trains heading in the other direction are re-formed at the Severobaikalsk station and then sent along the Trans-Siberian Railway through Taishet, Irkutsk, Petrovsky Zavod and Chita. “Individual work is underway with passengers to clarify travel options, including using other modes of transport. Additional passenger trains are also being formed at the stations of Severobaikalsk, Irkutsk, Krasnoyarsk,” the Russian Railways added.
The erosion of the railway track in the Nizhneangarsk-Kholodnaya section at the BAM occurred on August 19. Authorities of Buryatia introduced state of emergency on a regional scale. About 200 meters of embankment along the tracks turned out to be washed away, ten poles of the contact network were damaged. Due to the scale of the damage, restoration work will tentatively last until August 26. All this time, traffic along the BAM in the Severo-Baikalsky district of Buryatia will be blocked.
