Film critic, ex-head of Goskino and professor of film studies at VGIK Armen Medvedev has died at the age of 84. This was reported to RIA Novosti by the Union of Cinematographers.
Armen Medvedev entered VGIK in 1955, where he studied at the directing department in the studio of Alexander Dovzhenko, but then he transferred to the film criticism department in the studio of Nikolai Lebedev. He defended his dissertation on the topic “Problems of reflecting the moral world of a contemporary hero in Soviet cinema art of the late 50s – 70s.” Since 1982, he has been the editor-in-chief of the Art of Cinema magazine.
In 1984, Armen Medvedev became the editor-in-chief of the scriptwriting and editorial board of Goskino. He has taught at the film studies department of VGIK since the 1980s. In 1992-1999 he was the chairman of the Goskino of Russia.
Armen Medvedev is an Honored Art Worker of the Armenian SSR, an Honored Art Worker of Russia, holder of the Orders of the Badge of Honor and For Services to the Fatherland, IV degree.
