Deputy Prime Minister Abramchenko ruled out the risk of egg shortage in Russia – Kommersant

There is no and will not be a shortage of chicken eggs in Russia, prices will stabilize after the New Year, said Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Victoria Abramchenko. According to her, the cost of eggs has increased, including against the backdrop of the “excitement” that will subside after the New Year holidays.

“There is no shortage and there definitely won’t be. And taking into account the measures taken, the balance of production and consumption, the expansion of import supplies, the market is more than fully supplied with eggs,” Ms. Abramchenko said in an interview “RIA News”.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, egg consumption has increased by more than 1.8 billion eggs. However, in 2023 there was an outbreak of bird flu, due to which production fell by 700 million units. The government, Victoria Abramchenko noted, has already taken the necessary measures to stabilize the situation.

Retail egg prices rose sharply in November. In December, eggs became one of the most expensive products: their price rose by 10–20% in 46 regions of the Russian Federation. On December 14, during the “Results of the Year”, President Vladimir Putin explainedthat the demand for eggs exceeded supply, and imports were not opened on time in the required volume.

On December 18, the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission zeroed out duties on imports of chicken eggs to Russia from January 1 to June 30, 2024. The benefit will apply to the supply of 1.2 billion eggs. 19 And 23 December, batches of chicken eggs from Azerbaijan were delivered to Russia. Also expected supply of eggs from Turkey.
