Deputy Gorelkin opposed the introduction of a list of banned video games

Anton Gorelkin, deputy head of the State Duma committee on information policy, believes that the list of video games approved by the government will not make sense. In his opinion, “bloody and violent” games will still be downloaded from torrents. Instead, the deputy suggested creating a rating that would include the recommended age for playing, as well as indicate the level of cruelty of a particular video game.
“In my opinion, the state should not over-control all these processes, but what is really needed is a transparent and accessible rating system for video games. Which will not only recommend age, but also describe the mechanics, the level of cruelty and some other parameters,” wrote Mr. Gorelkin in Telegram. He admitted that based on such a rating, the parent would decide whether he or his child should buy the game.
As Kommersant learned, the government apparatus asked the Prosecutor General’s Office and ministries to evaluate several ideas for protecting children from the “negative” influence of video games. Among them: the creation of a list of approved and prohibited games, as well as the requirement to pre-install domestic parental control programs on computers.
