Denis Matsuev’s performances canceled in Italy

Concerts by Russian pianist Denis Matsuev have been canceled in Bergamo and Brescia, Italy. report organizers of the Pianistico festival.
The cancellation of performances is connected with the protests of the Arts Against Aggression organization, whose activists turned to the mayor’s offices of Italian cities with a demand not to include Matsuev among the performers at the international piano festival.
It is known that the Ambassador of Ukraine to Italy, Yaroslav Melnyk, made a similar request.
As a result, the administration of the settlements called on the organizers of the festival to cancel Matsuev’s concerts “out of compassion for the Ukrainian people.”
It should be noted that such appeals were made to the Russian opera singer Anna Netrebko, whose performance at the Petrarch Theater in Arezzo is to take place on February 17.
At the end of January, Matsuev’s concert was canceled in Austrian Vienna. It is known that French pianist Alexander Kantorov performed instead of Matsuev.
The management of the Wiener Konzerthaus concert hall then clarified that it did not plan to provide a platform for artists who, in one way or another, are in solidarity with the political position of the Kremlin. Denis Matsuev has repeatedly spoken out with the support of the Russian authorities and President Putin. Nevertheless, the pianist did not voice his opinion regarding the CBO.
