Demand for energy coal in Russia will remain until 2050

The demand for thermal coal in Russia, despite the global climate agenda and the development of green energy, will be stable in the coming years and by 2050 will decrease by only 2% compared to 2022. This is stated in a study by the consulting agency Yakov and Partners ( formerly McKinsey in Russia). Vedomosti has the document.
In 2022, domestic demand for coal supported production, allowing companies to offset the drop in exports caused by sanctions. According to the Ministry of Energy, exports of coal – both energy and coking, or metallurgical – last year decreased by only 1% to 221.2 million tons, while supplies to the domestic market increased by 14.7% to 181.6 million tons. Production in 2022 increased by 0.3% to 443.6 million tons.
