Demand for cash in Russia has stabilized

The increased demand for currency, provoked by the armed rebellion of the Wagner PMC, quickly returned to normal. By data Central Bank, on Monday, banks returned unclaimed currency to the Central Bank for 8.4 billion rubles. Recall that the daily volume of cash withdrawals by the population on Friday, June 23, amounted to 105.3 billion rubles. Analysts note that the rate of change in cash in circulation is quite volatile and often rises on the eve of the weekend, but last Friday it hit a record high in recent months. The previous record was recorded in September 2022 after the announcement of partial mobilization, and the absolute maximum was recorded in February, after the start of the NWO. February 25, 2022 cash in circulation increased up to 1.4 trillion rubles.

Technically, the statistics of the Central Bank reflects the entire volume of cash put into circulation through the cash desks and ATMs of banks, but this amount is close to the amount of cash withdrawals by the population and enterprises, since banks fill the cash desks depending on the demand from customers.
