The Bolshoi Theater announced on its website the death at the age of 81 of the Soviet and Russian ballet dancer, ballet teacher, Honored Artist of the RSFSR and friend of Maya Plisetskaya Valery Lagunov.
“The Bolshoi Theater mourns and expresses sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased,” the obituary says.
The theater noted that Lagunov had unique abilities and in 1963, Yuri Grigorovich, when creating his edition of The Sleeping Beauty, included in the cascade of dances the dance of Cinderella and Prince Fortune, choreographed especially for Lagunov and his partner.
The Bolshoi Theater press service also noted his shepherdess dance in The Nutcracker and a real triumph after performing the role of the Archon in the ballet Icarus, which was staged by Vladimir Vasiliev.
In 2006, Lagunov, already a teacher, published the book “The Thorns and Roses of the Bolshoi Ballet,” which shook the ballet community.
The theater promised to announce the date of farewell and funeral later.
