In the first quarter of 2023, the fees of insurers in the segment increased by 13% compared to the same period last year, to almost 58 billion rubles. Payments increased by 2% to 29 billion rubles. The number of contracts concluded in the first quarter of 2023 increased by 44% to 1.8 million.

According to experts, the growing popularity of monthly hull insurance policies is associated with the holiday period. The increase in the share of short-term hull insurance policies is associated with the development of the habit of paying by installments among users, which makes it possible to significantly reduce the first payment and immediately receive the service, Yulia Korneeva believes. At the same time, in the event of an insured event, payment of the full annual cost of the Casco policy is not required, she adds.

However, in reality, short-term products are always more expensive than long-term products. The price of an annual hull insurance policy with a one-time payment will be 10-15% lower than if the policy is purchased for a month and then prolonged, Alexander Krainik, director of insurance business development at Sravni.ru, warns. According to Banki.ru, the average price of an annual hull policy in the third quarter amounted to almost 53 thousand rubles, and a monthly one – 6 thousand rubles.

At the same time, policyholders continue to choose hull insurance policies with full risk coverage more often — their share is at the level of 62%. The share of policies with coverage “Theft + Complete destruction” is about 26%, and policies that include only the risk of theft are chosen in 6% of cases, indicate Banki.ru. More than half of policyholders purchase policies with a franchise, according to the marketplace.

The continued popularity of full-coverage policies is an indicator of demand for maximum insurance coverage against the background of an increase in the cost of cars and spare parts for them, the All-Russian Union of Insurers (ARC) explains. The franchise allows you to reduce the cost of insurance and share responsibility between the insurer and the owner of the car, they add there.

“When Casco is issued for new vehicles, the share of policies with franchises is at the level of about 20-25%, for cars with mileage – up to 50%,” Sovcombank Insurance specified. Since the beginning of the year, about 30% of new customers who purchase hull insurance policies have chosen franchise programs, Rosgosstrakh confirms. Other insurers surveyed did not respond to Kommersant’s inquiries.

According to Said Zaliev, it is likely that in October the share of monthly policies will begin to decline and in the period from October to April it may be at the level of 5-7% of the total Casco sales, as the holiday activity will decrease.
