MK found out which museums were closed for the weekend and which are still open

The tragedy at Crocus City Hall shocked everyone. In those hours when terrible events were unfolding in the building of the concert hall, Moscow Mayor Sobyanin announced the cancellation of all cultural and other public events in the capital. Following him, other heads of cities and regions hastened to make similar decisions. Many public private cultural venues also closed for the weekend. But not all.

The Moscow Kremlin museums will not be open on March 23. They promise to refund the cost of tickets; there is no information about work on Sunday yet.

The Historical Museum, the Museum of the Patriotic War of 1812, the Chambers of the Romanov Boyars and the Exhibition Complex began work at 10:30. The Intercession Cathedral and the museum store on Nikolskaya are closed to the public.

The Tretyakov Gallery will operate according to its usual schedule on March 23 and 24, according to the museum’s website and official channel. In one of its branches, in the Apollinarius Vasnetsov Museum, a lecture “Non-Objective Painting and the Object of Art” is planned, which, in spite of everything, will take place. But entrance to the Vasnetsov Museum will be open only to guests of the event. We contacted the museum’s press service to clarify this information.

– Is the Tretyakov Gallery really open as usual?

– Yes, the museum is open. On Monday, the planned press preview of Yuri Zlotnikov’s exhibition “Signal System” will take place. The information that the museum is closed is incorrect, but, unfortunately, it spread quickly and widely.

The Pushkin Museum will also be open to visitors, but previously scheduled tours, classes and other events will not take place. The museum expressed condolences to the victims and promised to refund the cost of paid tickets for canceled events.

The Hermitage followed the example of its Moscow colleagues: all exhibitions are operating as usual. “The Hermitage always maintains museum security measures at a high level, however, in connection with the tragedy that occurred in the Crocus City Hall concert hall, they have been further strengthened,” the museum’s press service reports. All public events at the museum this weekend have been cancelled, including an interactive game for schoolchildren as part of Children’s Book Week at the General Staff Building. Performances scheduled at the Hermitage Theater on March 23 and 24 have been postponed. New dates for performances will be announced in the near future.

The Russian Museum is also open to the public on weekends. Tours of permanent and temporary exhibitions will be held as usual. “Security measures have been strengthened. All public and entertainment events have been cancelled,” the press service of the State Russian Museum reports.

Private art institutions – the AZ Museum, GES-2, the Museum of Russian Impressionism, and the Béton Center – are closed for the weekend.
