Counterfeiting in the Russian Federation in 2023 reached its lowest level in 13 years

At the end of 2023, counterfeiting in Russia reached a historical minimum. According to report Bank of Russia, over the entire last year, 12,425 counterfeit banknotes were discovered. The most common counterfeits are five-thousand-dollar banknotes. The least number of counterfeit banknotes were detected in denominations of 10 rubles.

From the report of the Bank of Russia it follows that in 2023 there were only two counterfeit banknotes per million. There has not been such a low level since at least 2011. The regulator does not provide earlier statistics. The largest amount of counterfeit money was found in the Central Federal District, the smallest in the Far Eastern Federal District.

In total, 8,856 counterfeit 5,000-ruble banknotes and 2,438 counterfeit 1,000-ruble banknotes were discovered last year. and 671 – 2 thousand rubles. Fake 10 ruble banknote. only one was discovered. Among the coins, the most popular among counterfeiters were 10 rubles. 154 counterfeit coins of this denomination were identified. 61 counterfeit 5 ruble coins were also discovered.

In 2023, 1,438 counterfeit banknotes of foreign countries were identified. Most of them were counterfeit US dollars – 1,126 pieces. 303 counterfeit euro banknotes were found, 5 Chinese yuan, 2 Ukrainian hryvnia, 1 Swedish kronor and 1 UAE dirham.
