Consumers spent a record $12.7 billion on Amazon Prime’s annual sale

Online sales in Amazon’s two-day promotion reached record $12.7 billion. This is 6.1% more than a year earlier. At the same time, the first day of the sale, July 11, became the highest single-day sales in the history of the platform, on the second day, sales amounted to $6.3 billion.
Amazon Prime Day has been held annually since 2015 and lasts two days. Only subscribers to the Prime service are eligible to participate, which costs customers $139 per year, but in return provides discounts on shipping, streaming service and other bonuses. The service has 167 million customers in the US alone.
Over 375 million items were sold worldwide in two days, up from over 300 million a year earlier. And, according to Amazon, this year, subscribers of the service have saved more than $2.5 billion thanks to discounts. On the second day, the retailer offered a 14% discount on electronics and 12% on toys and clothes, in addition, there were good deals on stationery, which also aroused the enthusiasm of buyers in the run-up to the school year.
The average amount per order increased from $52.26 to $54.05 over the year. According to Amazon, household goods, fashionable clothes and shoes, cosmetics, and household appliances were in the greatest demand. Meanwhile, analytics firm Adobe predicted total Amazon Prime Day sales were expected to rise 9.5% year-over-year to $13.1 billion.
