Coal exports in the first quarter of 2024 decreased slightly, Russian Deputy Energy Minister Sergei Mochalnikov told reporters. According to him, coal production is proceeding according to the schedule set for 2023, and it is planned to increase coal supplies to the east.
“In the first quarter in terms of (coal) production “Ъ”) we are on schedule for 2023. There is a slight decrease in exports,” said Mr. Mochalnikov. According to him, the Ministry of Energy does not yet plan to revise forecasts for coal production and exports for 2024.
In 2024, Russia intends to increase the volume of coal supplies to the east by rail to 111 million tons. In 2023, supplies amounted to 108 million tons. In general, exports are planned to remain at the level of 210–220 million tons, production at the level of 440 million tons.
“We have some restrictions in logistics (at the Eastern training ground.— “Ъ”), and today there are price rallies that are unclear when they will end. Considering that the Eastern landfill is limited, we are forced to transport Russian coal products through the ports of the AChB (Azov-Black Sea basin.— “Ъ”) and the ports of the North-West,” said the deputy minister (quoted from “Interfax”).
As Kommersant has learned, Russian coal companies face the prospect of reducing coal production due to lower product prices – they have dropped to 2021 levels. At the same time, the export of biological resources becomes unprofitable due to logistics costs.
