The two songwriters dropped their lawsuit against Grammy-winning singer Taylor Swift, whom they accused of copying their lyrics in the 2014 song “Shake It Off” from 3LW’s 2001 song “Playas Gon’ Play”. This is reported Reuters.
Sean Hall and Nathan Butler told a federal judge in Los Angeles that they were withdrawing the lawsuit, which was filed with the artist in 2017. The claim cannot be resubmitted. The trial in the case was scheduled to begin on January 17.
The court documents cited by the agency do not specify whether a settlement has been reached. The judge dismissed the case against Ms Swift in 2018, but the US Court of Appeals reopened it in 2019.
Taylor Swift told a court in August that she had never heard a 3LW song before she wrote “Shake It Off.” Sean Hall and Nathan Butler said that the lyrics are too similar for their similarities to be coincidental. They demanded unspecified monetary damages.
