Chinese hackers took advantage of a vulnerability in the Microsoft Cloud service and carried out a cyber attack through it, hacking users’ email addresses. According to The Washington Post (WP), the problem was discovered by government agencies in June and, as the representative of the US National Security Council, Adam Hodges, told the publication, “officials immediately contacted Microsoft to identify the source of the cyber attack and find a vulnerability in the cloud service.”
The FBI launched an investigation into the cyberattack, although the number of email accounts hacked is believed to be low. According to knowledgeable WP sources, the Pentagon, intelligence and military accounts were not affected by this cyber attack.
