Chinese car imports to Russia up 50% in 11 months

For 11 months, 106 thousand Chinese cars were imported into Russia. This is almost 50% more than in the same period last year, said the head of the Federal Customs Service (FCS) Vladimir Bulavin. According to him, the total trade turnover with China increased by 26% by December, to $159 billion.

Mr. Bulavin said that imports of Chinese special equipment also increased. “In addition to cars, special equipment was imported – 142,000 different special vehicles were imported, which is also almost 50% more than last year,” the head said on the air of Rossiya 24 (quoted by Interfax).

Vladimir Bulavin specified that about 60% of all used cars imported since the beginning of the year were imported from Japan. Trade turnover with this country decreased by 36%.

In November, sales of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles (LCV) in Russia turned out to be 61% lower than last year’s result. The top market is still headed by the domestic Lada, and Chinese brands have replaced the Korean brands that were in the lead last year. According to the forecast of “Kommersant” and profile analysts, the Russian car market in 2022 will be reduced by 60%.
