The business activity index (PMI) in the Chinese industrial sector fell to 49.5 points in October, as follows from report National Bureau of Statistics. In September, industrial activity grew, and the index level was 50.2 points.
The fall in business activity in the industrial sector was unexpected by analysts. Those, on average, bet on maintaining her small height. The most pessimistic forecast among Standard Chartered analysts surveyed Reutersthere was a drop in the index to 49.9 points, but the real indicators turned out to be even worse.
The index of business activity in the non-manufacturing sector also decreased: compared to September, it fell by 1.1 points and now stands at 50.6 points. Thus, despite a serious slowdown in October, business activity in the non-manufacturing sector is still growing. This index includes, in particular, activity indicators in the services and construction sectors. Thus, PMI in the construction industry amounted to 53.5 points, which is 2.7 points lower than the previous month. The service business activity index amounted to 50.1 points, which is 0.8 percentage points lower than in September.
