China to resume group tourism to Russia and several other countries from February 6

China has allowed travel agencies and online companies to resume group outbound tourism to a number of countries, including Russia, said press office Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China.
The list of countries to which China allowed to send tourist groups, in addition to Russia, includes Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Laos, UAE, Egypt, Kenya, South Africa, Switzerland, Hungary, New Zealand, Fiji, Cuba and Argentina.
Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) expects arrival of the first groups of tourists from China in February-March. The ATOR press service said that the flow of tourists to Russia is now “almost zero” due to the fact that Visa and Mastercard cards do not work in Russia. In favor of restoring the inbound flow from China, the fact that Russia accepts cards from the Chinese payment system UnionPay will play, ATOR reports the words of Alexander Kurnosov, deputy director of the inbound tour operator Academservice.
With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, China has suspended the practice of outbound tour groups. The PRC pursued a policy of zero tolerance for the coronavirus, introducing hard lockdowns throughout the country. In December 2022, amid mass protests, the Chinese authorities eased coronavirus restrictions. In particular, those who have a mild illness will no longer have to stay in quarantine centers for the period of treatment. From January 8 in China canceled five-day quarantine for travelers.
At the same time, a major outbreak of COVID-19 is still ongoing in China. January 14 Chinese health authorities reported nearly 60,000 coronavirus-related deaths between December 8, 2022 and January 12. At the end of December, Chinese authorities stopped publishing daily data on COVID-19. Despite easing coronavirus restrictions in China, Russia will continue control at checkpoints across the border with China.
