China allowed pork supplies from Russia after 15 years

The General Administration of Customs (GCU) of China has lifted restrictions on pork exports from Russia. About it reported in the press service of Rosselkhoznadzor.
“The restrictions on the import of pork from Russia previously established by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, as well as the Ministry of Agriculture of the People’s Republic of China by Announcement No. 125 of 2008, no longer apply,” the statement said.
The department noted that this decision was made after analyzing the state control system for African swine fever in Russia. The press service of Rosselkhoznadzor noted that the State Technical University will additionally formulate inspection and quarantine requirements for Russian pork supplies.
The ban on the supply of Russian pork to China has been in effect since 2008. Over the past ten years, Rosselkhoznadzor has been working to allow pork from Russia to enter the Chinese market.
In September, Rosselkhoznadzor identified about 10 cases of African swine fever-infected pork entering stores in Ryazan, Bryansk, Vladimir and other regions. It is not dangerous for humans, but due to the virus, which is easily transmitted between countries, the number of pigs may decrease. In total, 38 outbreaks of the disease have been identified in Russia since the beginning of the year among domestic pigs and 26 among wild boars. Rosselkhoznadzor cites the use of food waste purchased via the Internet or in canteens, cafes and hospitals as the main reason for the spread of ASF.
