Chevron and union agree to end strike at LNG plants in Australia

September 22nd ended strike at two key Chevron LNG plants in Australia. The company and the Offshore Alliance said they had reached an agreement, the terms of which were proposed by the Australian Fair Work Commission.
The union believes that the agreement significantly improves the situation of workers and provides for increased wages, job security, improved opportunities for advancement, etc. Prior to this, the Offshore Alliance had been campaigning for several years to improve conditions and pay at Chevron plants.
Strike started 8 September. The shutdown of the two plants, according to estimates from the consulting company Wood Mackenzie, threatened to disrupt supply schedules for approximately 7% of all LNG in the world, so gas prices rose after the strike began.
“Now the threat of strikes has passed. They did not have a significant impact on global LNG supplies. Prices are now likely to fall and market volatility will disappear,” says Daniel Toleman, chief global LNG analyst at Wood Mackenzie.
