Chekunkov announced the UAE’s interest in the construction of a satellite city of Vladivostok

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has shown interest in the Sputnik city construction project near Vladivostok, informed “RIA Novosti” Minister for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic Alexei Chekunkov at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF). Today at the forum, he met with the Minister of Economy of the UAE.

“Another project that greatly interested our Arab friends is the construction of a satellite city of Vladivostok. The whole world knows how successful the development of new hotels, resorts, business districts has been in the United Arab Emirates – both in Dubai and in Abu Dhabi. And they, of course, have the strongest competencies in this. We aim to build a melting pot where West meets East with a focus on youth, science, education, tourism, trade,” he said.

According to Chekunkov, this project is offered to partners from the UAE as an opportunity to work in the East Asian market, but “in the conditions of the Russian Federation that are comfortable for them, i.e. serve both the tourist flow, and the business flow, and guests from East Asia.

In September 2021, at the site of the Eastern Economic Forum (WEF) the Government of the Primorsky Territory and the Ministry for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic (Ministry of Development of the Far East) together with the Corporation for the Development of the Far East, VEB.RF and New City Projects signed agreement on the construction of the city of Sputnik near Vladivostok. Then Chekunkov on the sidelines of the VEF told Vedomosti that the Ministry for the Development of the Far East is negotiating with the PIK group on participation in the construction project of a new city 30 km from Vladivostok.
