Chamber of Commerce and Industry estimated damage to Moscow’s business due to bad weather at several tens of millions of rubles

According to preliminary estimates, the damage to business in Moscow due to the downpour amounted to several tens of millions of rubles. This was stated by the head of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) of the Russian Federation Sergey Katyrin.

“Presumably, the damage to the capital’s business amounted to several tens of millions of rubles. But the exact numbers, of course, have yet to be estimated,” Katyrin said.

According to him, due to the abundance of rainfall in Moscow, several areas suffered at once: transport and logistics, catering, especially outdoors, retail, etc. Katyrin noted that the showers created problems in the delivery of goods and caused an increase in transport maintenance costs , the builders had to shift the deadlines for the work.

“Other areas include retail: bad weather has scared away shoppers and reduced the number of customers, resulting in lower sales. That is, we are also talking about lost revenue, ”said Katyrin. He noted that the business has shown social responsibility. In particular, entrepreneurs continued to deliver goods, and restaurateurs and owners of retail outlets, according to Katyrin, let residents of the capital wait out the rain.

Earlier, authorities reported that in some areas of Moscow more than a quarter of the monthly rainfall fell in less than an hour. The largest number of them fell on the Central (23 mm), North-Eastern (22 mm) and Northern (21 mm) administrative districts. At the same time, wind gusts in the south of the capital amounted to 20 m/s, and in the northeast – 15 m/s. According to weather forecasts, heavy showers are expected in Moscow on July 18 and 19, and until Wednesday morning the rainfall may reach 44 mm.

At the same time, the authorities warned about the beginning of the second wave of super-intensive precipitation in Moscow, which may be more intense than the previous one.
