Central Bank: scammers began to use QR codes to withdraw money from cards

The Central Bank spoke about a new type of fraud, when attackers use QR codes to withdraw cash. Fraudsters call a bank client with a message about an attempt to withdraw money and ask to send a QR code to cancel the operation.
A QR code for cash withdrawal has become available in some banks: the client can specify the required amount, generate a code in a mobile application and bring it to an ATM. A QR code is an authorization for a bank to issue money without entering a PIN code.
“To steal money, scammers use a cash withdrawal service, so they can easily share it,”— says in the message from the regulator. The Bank of Russia noted that real bank employees never ask customers for a QR code.
The QR code cash withdrawal function is available at Tinkoff, Sberbank and VTB.
