Today, June 13, shares of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSMC), the world’s largest semiconductor manufacturer, grew up by 3%. The capitalization of the company thus again exceeded $500 billion, amounting to $501.3 billion, and TSMC entered the top 10 most expensive companies in the world.
The company’s stock quotes reached record highs in early 2021, in the face of a sharp increase in demand for chips. However, they dropped significantly last year. Now, growth has begun again: since the beginning of 2023, TSMC shares have risen by 32%. According to analysts, this is due to the expectation of a significant increase in demand for microchips in the context of the spread of AI systems.
“With the advent of disruptive applications using generative AI (such as ChatGPT), we are seeing the semiconductor industry shift from mobile to AI,” analysts at Morgan Stanley said in a note. In their opinion, TSMC can be one of the market leaders due to the demand for energy-efficient and low-cost AI chips that can be customized for specific purposes.
