Canada has expanded its ban on imports of Russian diamonds – Kommersant

Canadian authorities have introduced additional measures to ban the import of Russian diamonds. In particular, citizens of Canada and other persons in the country are prohibited from importing, purchasing, purchasing rough or sawn, as well as ungraded diamonds from Russia, reported Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The ban also applies to goods with Russian diamonds, including jewelry, wristwatches, pocket watches, stopwatches – they will not be able to be purchased or imported. Sanctions do not apply to personal items carried upon entry into Canada.

In February 2022, Canada imposed sanctions against the Russian group of diamond mining companies ALROSA. In January 2024, restrictions against ALROSA also entered European Union. In the 12th package of sanctions, the EU introduced a ban on the import of non-industrial diamonds mined, processed or produced in Russia.
