As of today, August 15, sugar factories in Russia produced 147.2 thousand tons of sugar, the non-profit organization Union of Sugar Producers of Russia reported (“Soyuzrossahar”). Compared to the same period in 2022, the indicator increased by 92%. Then 76.7 thousand tons of beet sugar were produced.
According to Soyuzrossahar, by August 15, 1,314 thousand tons of sugar beets were processed, from which 147.2 thousand tons of beet sugar, 47.5 thousand tons of molasses and 47.7 thousand tons of dried granulated pulp were produced.
Sugar beet processing is carried out by 14 plants in the Krasnodar Territory and one plant each in the Stavropol Territory and in the Tambov Region. By the end of the week, they plan to start processing beets at six more sugar factories in the Central and Siberian Federal Districts.
According to the forecast of the International Sugar Organization (ISO), sugar production in Russia in 2023 will increase from 6.25 million to 6.4 million tons. According to Rosstat, sugar beets have been sown on 1.064 million hectares this year.
