Yesterday, December 20, video game developer Activision Blizzard announcedthat its CEO Bobby Kotick will leave his post on December 29. This did not come as a surprise: after the company merged with Microsoft in October, it was reported that Mr. Kotik would leave this position by the end of the year. Now other top managers of Activision Blizzard will report directly to the head of Microsoft’s gaming division, Matt Booty.

Last January, Microsoft agreed about the purchase of Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion. This deal raised many questions among regulators who were concerned about the availability of Activision Blizzard games in cloud services. As a result, Microsoft agreed to transfer to a competitor in the games market, Ubisoft Entertainment, the rights to distribute all existing and new Activision Blizzard games on cloud streaming services. After this the regulators approved the deal was completed in October.

Mr. Kotik headed the company for more than 30 years. Since 1991, he has been the CEO of game developer Activision, and since 2008, after its merger with competitor Vivendi Games, he has been the head of the united Activision Blizzard.
