The export of champagne from Turkey to Russia increased by 182% last year, transmits Bloomberg citing data from Trade Data Monitor. At the same time, France increased the supply of its products to Turkey by 120%, according to data from the industry association Comite Champagne.

In addition, exports of champagne from France to the UAE increased by 75% in 2022, which have become one of the most popular destinations for Russian tourists. In total, the UAE purchased 1.9 million bottles of champagne last year.

According to David Chatillon, co-chairman of L’Union des Maisons de Champagne, an association of champagne producers, the increase in purchases in these regions may be due to the influx of tourists from Russia. Trade Data Monitor also does not rule out that some countries may re-export champagne to Russia.

After the start of the special operation in Ukraine, the US and EU countries imposed large-scale sanctions against Russia, which, among other things, affected the import of alcohol. In particular, the United States completely banned the supply of alcohol, and the EU limited the supply of products more than 300 euros per bottle, the restrictions also affected wine. As a result, the supply of champagne wines to Russia in 2022 decreased by more than 80% compared to 2021, writes Bloomberg.
