Belavia received the right to carry out maintenance of aircraft of Russian airlines, reported on the website of the Belarusian air carrier.

They explained that Belavia, based on the results of a certification audit by the Federal Air Transport Agency, received a certificate of a maintenance organization, which confirms the compliance of the airline’s activities with the requirements of the Russian Federation.

“The certificate gives Belavia the right to carry out the permitted list of works on the operational and periodic maintenance of aircraft registered in the Russian Federation, as well as on the maintenance of certain categories of components installed on these aircraft,” the message says.

Belavia has ample opportunities for aircraft maintenance, they added.

On April 13, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko at a meeting with the head of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov informed on the readiness of Belarusian enterprises to establish the production of components for Russian aircraft. As noted by the BelTA agency, the Minsk Civil Aviation Plant No. 407 and the Kazan Aviation Plant earlier announced their intention to sign a roadmap for the production of components for Tu-214 aircraft. The Kazan enterprise expects to increase production to 70 Tu-214 aircraft by 2030.

At the end of March, Minister of Transport Vitaly Savelyev announced that more than 200 technical organizations were operating in Russia and that there were 23 hangars that could service 80 aircraft at the same time. Thanks to this, air transport service is possible without downtime and long queues, Savelyev added.

After the start of the special operation, the EU, the UK and the US imposed sanctions against the Russian aviation industry, including a complete ban on the supply of aircraft and components. Boeing and Airbus aircraft, which form the basis of the Russian fleet, fell under it. Aircraft insurance and maintenance were banned, and foreign leasing companies began to recall aircraft already delivered.

As a response to the current situation, the government of the Russian Federation in June 2022 approved a new program for the development of the aviation industry. It provides for the supply of 1,036 aircraft for the needs of civil aviation until 2030. Of these, 142 SSJ New (“import-substituted” SSJ) and 270 MS-21-310 aircraft.
