California Trial Court in San Benito County made a decision in favor of the chemical corporation Bayer, which was accused of its Roundup herbicide causing cancer. The court found no connection between the use of this herbicide and the plaintiff’s cancer. The company said the decision is “consistent with the evidence in this case showing that Roundup does not cause cancer and is not related to plaintiff’s illness.” This is Bayer’s first victory in this type of case in recent times.

Bayer has been at the center of numerous lawsuits over Roundup for several years now – since 2018, shortly after the German concern bought the American company Monsanto, the direct manufacturer of Roundup. In 2020 Bayer settled the majority of such claims are about 100 thousand, agreeing to pay almost $11 billion. After that, the company won a number of cases on such charges, but recently several courts in a row have been unsuccessful for it. Thus, in November, the Missouri State Court fined Bayer for $1.5 billion. According to experts, the current decision could be a turning point for the company, after which other courts will be more likely to rule in its favor.
