Banks at the end of September sharply increased interest rates on consumer loans

According to Finuslug, for the week from September 29 to October 6, the average rate on consumer loans increased by 1.3 percentage points (p.p.), to 19.29% per annum, on unsecured loans for any purpose – by 1.7 p.p. , up to 20.45%, for secured loans – by 0.46 percentage points, up to 16.72%. According to the portal, this happened against the background of the adoption by the State Duma laws on credit holidays for mobilized citizens and write-off of loans of the dead mobilized.
Banks changed the rate by raising the upper limit of the total cost of the loan. Of the top 20 banks, Alfa-Bank, Gazprombank, Moscow Credit Bank, Rosbank, Sovcombank, Post Bank, Home Credit, Uralsib and Ak Bars raised their interest rates on loans.
In early and mid-September, the average rate on consumer loans in the top 20 banks almost did not increase, being at the level of 18%. On September 27, the State Duma adopted a law on credit holidays for the mobilized and their families. Yesterday, September 10, Deputy Prime Minister Andrey Belousov clarified that the measure would apply to conscripted businessmen. The business community supports the initiative, but the most important issue for it remains the issue of delays and reservations, regardless of industry affiliation.
