AvtoVAZ spoke about the impact of the ruble exchange rate on the cost of cars

The weakening of the ruble, of course, will affect the cost of Lada cars in the coming months. This was announced by AvtoVAZ President Maxim Sokolov on the sidelines of the Innoprom exhibition.

“The growth of the dollar against the ruble in one way or another affects the selling prices of our suppliers: suppliers of our components, various components. <...> This may be reflected in prices in the coming months, when the supply of imported materials and raw materials at fixed prices ends,” he said (cit. according to RIA Novosti), noting that each model will have its own impact.

According to Sokolov, this influence cannot be avoided, since suppliers “largely receive subcomponents, materials and raw materials from abroad.” At the same time, he emphasized that “AvtoVAZwill try to “minimize this process”.

The weakening of the ruble began on June 26. Then the dollar rose above 87 rubles, the euro – above 95 rubles, and on July 6 the dollar exceeded 92 rubles, while the euro reached 100 rubles. According to the Moscow Exchange, at 12:11 Moscow time on July 10, the dollar was trading at 91.7 rubles. (+0.5%), euro – 100.63 rubles. (+0.28%).

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister – Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov in an interview with Interfax informedthat the department and car manufacturers have agreements to prevent unreasonable price increases. “We will pay attention to their observance,” he said.

In early July, Vedomosti wrotethat new passenger cars in the summer-autumn of 2023 may rise in price by an average of 5-10% due to the continued strengthening of the main currencies used to purchase components and finished cars since June. This may affect the reduction of discounts and the cancellation of promotions, which gained momentum in the first half of the year.
