Automated passport control systems will appear at Vnukovo and Yekaterinburg Koltsovo airports in 2024. The head of the Ministry of Transport, Vitaly Savelyev, spoke about this in an interview with TASS. He clarified that this system is being introduced to “reduce the time of border control for the convenience of passengers.”
Such a system is already working at Sheremetyevo. It allows you to scan and check all passport data in a specialized booth without the participation of a border guard. Thanks to it, you can go through passport control at the border in 30–45 seconds. First Deputy Director and Head of the Border Service Vladimir Kulishov said that this system would be installed at at least six airports.
As part of the customs development strategy until 2030, a large-scale renovation of checkpoints is planned, which should become almost completely automated. The development of a “smart checkpoint” model for all types of transport has already begun.
