Uzbekistan has become the most popular destination for Russian tourists among the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). Demand for tours there grew by 20% in annual terms. This was announced by the executive director of the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) Maya Lomidze.
“Demand in Russia has grown everywhere, but Uzbekistan is the leader in terms of dynamics in this sense. If we compare 2021 with 2022, this is at least plus 20%,” Maya Lomidze said at the Tashkent International Tourism Fair (quoted from “Prime”). According to her, ATOR also records a record demand for New Year tours to Uzbekistan.
Maya Lomidze added that “card” tours to Uzbekistan for issuing bank cards working abroad have little effect on the popularity of the destination. “Card tourism in any of the countries where it is offered is small. This cannot have a significant impact on tourist flows,” she explained.
By data FSB, in the third quarter of 2022, 126 thousand people entered Uzbekistan from Russia, which is 102% more than in 2019. In total, 9.7 million citizens left Russia in the third quarter, which is twice as much as in the second quarter.
